LIGHT FOR LIFE ha sido creado gracias a la colaboración y visión de Paddle for the Cure NYC y Women in Lighting + Design NYC para la comunidad de Elmhurst Health + Hospitals. Esta dinámica instalación artística rinde homenaje a la perseverancia y fortaleza de los trabajadores de primera línea y de su comunidad en una de las áreas más afectadas de la Ciudad de Nueva York durante la pandemia de COVID-19. Además, como la instalación se llevará a cabo durante octubre el Mes de la Concientización sobre el Cáncer de Mama, LIGHT FOR LIFE también rinde homenaje a las supervivientes de cáncer de mama que el hospital ha atendido durante años. Paddle for the Cure NYC se ha establecido en la comunidad de Elmhurst y tiene un fuerte compromiso de apoyo con el hospital, sus médicos, el personal y los compañeros supervivientes de cáncer.
LIGHT FOR LIFE es un cartel artístico de 90 pies de largo x 3 pies de alto de luz dinámica que cambia de color y que será programado para mostrar texto, imágenes y movimiento, creando una poderosa imagen en la fachada frontal del hospital. La programación dinámica tendrá como telón de fondo imágenes impresas a gran escala del vecindario, la comunidad y el personal del hospital. La fotografía y la oportunidad de “Comprar una luz” en reconocimiento a un trabajador de primera línea o para honrar a un ser querido que ha sufrido de cáncer o de COVID (superviviente o fallecido) ofrecerán a la comunidad la oportunidad de crear una conexión profunda y personal con la instalación.

“Comprar una luz” como homenaje: dar gracias u honrar a un ser querido
“Comprar una luz” ofrece la oportunidad de dar las gracias a un trabajador de primera línea y al personal del hospital o de honrar a un ser querido que ha sido afectado por cáncer o COVID (superviviente o fallecido). Cada compra recibirá un número asociado a una bombilla específica situada en la instalación. Durante la inauguración del 4 de octubre, el nombre asignado a cada bombilla será proyectado con luz dinámica sobre el cartel artístico. Una vez finalizada la ceremonia de inauguración, el nombre asignado a cada bombilla permanecerá grabado en el área derecha de la instalación..

Women in Lighting + Design (WILD), is a networking and educational organization in the architectural lighting community. WILD is open to all women and their allies, creating a supportive and safe network for all. Professional and personal growth is developed through networking events, mentorship initiatives, and educational sessions. WILD’s mission is to promote women’s achievements, call attention to inequities and provide support and resources that can help resolve them, and to partner with other minority groups to build a strong and diverse community in the architectural lighting industry.
Women in Lighting + Design NYC has partnered with PFC for the past 6 years because they believe in the work and support PFC provides for breast cancer survivors. Many WILD NYC members have been affected by breast cancer, and WILD views supporting PFC as another way to support and recognize the struggles their membership has experienced.

PFC is a special support organization for breast cancer survivors /supporters. We offer a unique survivorship program that uses recreational dragon boat paddling to manage side effects of treatment for breast cancer survivors and promotes a positive and healthy lifestyle.
Organized by survivors, we paddle our way to recovery with each other and a tremendous group of supporters and paddling enthusiasts along our side. Our on-water season is May through October. Off-season indoor practice is available November through April. We plan to practice weekly in the World’s Fair Marina during the warm weather and participate in dragon boat races along the East Coast. Our team events are open to all and promote a healthy lifestyle, a way of getting life and movement back through exercise, as well as emotional support and team spirit.
Since Paddle for the Cure is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, donations and tickets at our fundraisers and events are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
